This self portrait was completed in a relatively short time, as an entry to a well-known art competition TV show. I think I did it too big for that purpose but I still like the outcome. It is finished in oil paint on a large canvas, in a impressionist sort of style, but with a vibrancy which is perhaps very contemporary. The aim of this composition was to show me in the bedroom studio space that I worked in at the time, with my posture and position betraying a kind of sheepishness which is partly an admission of vulnerability, but also an expression of the embarrassment of posing for a portrait to begin with.
